Bamiyan Valley - Hazarajat - Afghanistan

The Ancient ruins of the Bamiyan Valley in Hazarajat Afghanistan was the linking route for the Chinese and the western markets. The Bamiyan Valley was under the Ghandhara Empire, until it was raided by the Islamic empires. When Buddhism flourished in this region, Monks carved out statues of Buddha and stayed in the caves, on the sides of the cliff.

In 2001, The Taliban's attacked the place and dynamited the two huge Buddha statues in the name of God. They claimed Idols were against the Islamic law and these statues do not deserve a place in Afghanistan. An ancient wonder destroyed in seconds.
