After being identified as a World Heritage site, the hotels and roads leading to the site were demolished to preserve the natural landscape.
Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The city contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. It is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a temperate climate for most of the year.

The ancient Greco-Roman and Byzantine city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white "castle" which is in total about 2,700 metres (8,860 ft) long, 600 m (1,970 ft) wide and 160 m (525 ft) high. It can be seen from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli, 20 km away.

The interior of the cathedral includes numerous monuments and artworks. These include:
- The Archbishop Alberto da Intimiano's sarcophagus, which is overlooked by a Crucifix in copper laminae (a replica).
- The sarcophagi of the archbishops Ottone Visconti and Giovanni Visconti, created by a Campionese master in the 14th century.
- The sarcophagus of Marco Carelli, who donated 35,000 ducati to accelerate the construction of the cathedral.
- The three magnificent altars by Pellegrino Pellegrini, which include the notable Federico Zuccari's Visit of St. Peter to St. Agatha jailed.
- In the right transept, the monument to Gian Giacomo Medici di Marignano, called "Medeghino", by Leone Leoni, and the adjacent Renaissance marble altar, decorated with gilt bronze statues.
- In front of the former mausoleum is the most renowned work of art of the cathedral, the St. Bartholomew statue by Marco D'Agrate.
- The presbytery is a late Renaissance masterpiece composing a choir, a Temple by Pellegrini, two pulpits with giant atlantes covered in copper and bronze, and two large organs. Around the choir the two sacristies' portals, some frescoes and a fifteenth-century statue of Martin V by Jacopino da Tradate) can be seen.
- The transepts house the Trivulzio Candelabrum, which is in two pieces. The base (attributed to Nicolas of Verdun, 12th century), characterized by a fantastic ensemble of vines, vegetables and imaginary animals; and the stem, of the mid-16th century.
- In the left aisle, the Arcimboldi monument by Alessi and Romanesque figures depicting the Apostles in red marble and the neo-Classic baptistry by Pellegrini.
- A small red light bulb in the dome above the apse marks the spot where one of the nails reputedly from the Crucifixion of Christ has been placed.
- In November-December, in the days surrounding the birthdate of Saint Charles Borromeo, a series of large canvases, the Quadroni are exhibited along the nave.
- The 5-manual, 225-rank pipe-organ, built jointly by the Tamburini and Mascioni Italian organbuilding firms on Mussolini's command, is currently the largest organ in all of Italy
Abu Simbel is an archaeological site in Aswān province, 145 metres South West of Aswān, on the Nile River. Situated in ancient Nubia, it was the site of two temples built in the sandstone cliffs along the Nile c. 1250 b.c. during the reign of Ramses II. The temples were discovered in 1812 but were later menaced by the rising waters
of the Aswān High Dam. This resulted in a salvage operation in the 1960s, coordinated by UNESCO,
in which the temples were cut apart and reassembled 200 ft higher up. The larger of the temples has on its facade four colossal statues that are 60 ft high.

It is believed that the Minarets were built as a symbol of Islam’s victory. There were nearly 60 towers built between the 11th and the 13th century. The minaret is covered by complex geometric designs, including quotations from verses of the Koran in Kufic script. The whole structure is built using baked bricks.
The Minaret now faces threat due to soil erosion and illegitimate excavations. A lot of antiques have been plundered by tomb robbers. Now the Minaret has started to tilt. But measures are taken to stabilize it.
The Ancient ruins of the Bamiyan Valley in Hazarajat Afghanistan was the linking route for the Chinese and the western markets. The Bamiyan Valley was under the Ghandhara Empire, until it was raided by the Islamic empires. When Buddhism flourished in this region, Monks carved out statues of Buddha and stayed in the caves, on the sides of the cliff.
In 2001, The Taliban's attacked the place and dynamited the two huge Buddha statues in the name of God. They claimed Idols were against the Islamic law and these statues do not deserve a place in Afghanistan. An ancient wonder destroyed in seconds.

The worlds largest dam, the three gorges dam in China. It is the worlds largest electricity generating plant. Though the project is considered as an engineering success. The controversy still exists as building the project also involved 1.3 million people to be shifted and a few archaeological places destroyed.
